Rocks in the ocean.

Hey There

You've landed on my 'About' page! Here, you can learn about my credentials and background. I consider myself to be an open and collaborative therapist, and my hope is that the information here will help in deciding on whether we might be a good fit for the therapy which you are seeking.

My Credentials

I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist (License #PSY35105).

A licensed clinical psychologist is a mental health professional who specializes in diagnosing and treating mental illness, emotional disorders, and behavioral problems. They use various techniques such as psychotherapy, psychoeducation, and assessments to help their clients recognize issues, manage or overcome their challenges, and improve their mental health. They often also work closely with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care to their patients.

In the state of California, a licensed clinical psychologist is not a prescribing authority. If you have an interest in a regimen of medication to assist with your mental health, you'll want to seek the services of a psychiatrist. Mental health professionals have different beliefs and attitudes toward medication. My treatment philosophy is generally patient-centered, meaning that I prefer to help you to come to a decision on any program of medication based on your own beliefs and values.

In addition to my license, I am certified in Dialectical Behavior Therapy. I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing, and I completed my dissertation on the topics of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Moral Injury in combat veterans.

My Background

Therapy should always be focused on you and your needs. That 45-55 minutes is your time, and it should not be occupied by your therapist's concerns or stories unless they are somehow helpful for the challenge you are facing or help to establish a stronger working relationship. Even so, talking to a stranger is difficult, and it can be beneficial to know that you are talking to another human being, not just a face with a degree. If you find yourself interested in my background, here are some highlights.

I have served in the United States Army and was deployed to Iraq when I was very young. After exiting the military, I explored a number of career paths, from body work on tractor-trailers to property management. I eventually became an educator after attaining my master's degree and worked as an instructor for about 11 years. While I am still on the rolls, I do not currently teach, choosing instead to focus on practice. I attained my doctorate in clinical psychology, graduating with honors, and then went to work in a community mental health clinic. My experience there was varied: individuals, couples, adults, children, severe mental illness, everyday adjustment, and more. I then moved to a different practice where I conducted assessments/testing and psychotherapy for workers' compensation patients. I continue that work into the present, while also nurturing my own private practice.

Striations in stone.
